Courses

Courses Offered: I have designed and am currently teaching three courses:

1. Pride and Prejudice: A Critical Introduction to Sociology (HS 428)

The course is intended to be an introduction of the foundational aspects of Sociology for the B. Tech, M. Tech and M. A. students. The idea behind designing this course is to sensitise students to critical theories of Sociology and help them to develop a holistic and inclusive social outlook. This module covers eight major themes including, Society and Culture, Social Stratification, Race, Ethnicity and Migration, Cities and Urban Spaces, Mass Media and Communications, Education and Social Interaction and Everyday Life.

2. History, Concepts and Theories of Development Studies (HS 522):

The course is intended to be a comprehensive introduction to development studies for the B. Tech, M. Tech and M. A. students. This course module addresses four major thematic areas. First, it acquaints the students with the historical and philosophical emergence of development and capitalism beginning in the 19th century until the Second World War. Secondly, it introduces the students to the writings of major theorists in developmental thought. Thirdly it engages with the areas of industrialisation, urbanisation, environment, gender and political economy within the framework of development. Fourthly it introduces case studies from Latin America, Africa and Asia to give a critique of the development discourse and explore methods of articulating a post-development discourse.

I am currently designing a Special Course (6-Level) on Sociology of Tribes, which I will offer next year.
